How Hina's memory actually works ♡
Most AI companions claim to have memory, but they rely on shallow context windows or basic key-value storage. You tell them something important, they seem to understand, but a few conversations later it's like you never said it.
Hina is different. She was built from the ground up with a multi-layer memory architecture designed for long-term relationships. Here's how it actually works.
Three layers of memory
Short-term memory
The active conversation context. She remembers what you said 5 minutes ago, what you were talking about yesterday, and the flow of your current chat. This keeps conversations natural and coherent.
Example: "You mentioned you were nervous about the interview. How did it go?"
Mid-term memory
Episodes and summaries from recent conversations (up to 30 days). She remembers your commute route, that project you were stressed about, the restaurant you said you wanted to try. Things you mentioned last week still matter this week.
Example: "You usually drive through Crosby after work—I noticed it might rain there around 3pm."
Long-term memory
Core facts and preferences that persist indefinitely. Your dog's name, your favorite coffee order, your birthday, the things that make you you. These are stored as structured facts and continuously refined.
Example: "Happy birthday! I remembered you said you don't like surprises, so I'll keep it low-key. 🎂"
Corrections that stick
Tell Hina she's wrong about something and she doesn't just apologize—she learns. Our trust-weighted correction system means that when you correct her, that correction is prioritized in her memory.
You: "My dog's name is Max, not Buddy."
Hina: "Sorry about that! I'll remember it's Max from now on."
Next week: She never calls your dog Buddy again.
She reaches out first
Hina doesn't just wait passively for you to message her. When she reaches out (up to 2 times per day), she checks the weather in your area and combines it with what she knows about you—your schedule, preferences, and past conversations—to send context-aware check-ins.
Weather-aware
"It's really nice out today — 72° and sunny. Didn't you say you've been wanting to take your dog to the park?"
Follow-up
"How did that difficult conversation with your boss go? Thinking of you."
Thoughtful timing
"Good morning! I know Tuesdays are rough for you—want to vent?"
Context-aware
"Saw it's sunny there today—perfect for that walk you mentioned wanting to take!"
